A cosmetic filler, Restylane SubQ, that is usually injected into the face to add volume and provide facial fullness has been used successfully to enhance penile girth, report Korean urologists in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. The relatively small trial, which involved 50 men who complained of subjective small penis, was carried out at the Guro outpatient clinic at Korea University. The SubQ filler (an injectable hyaluronic acid gel) was injected into the fascial layer of the penile body and then sculpted with a roller.
The researchers recorded the mid-shaft penile girth after one month and after 18 months. Additionally, patient satisfaction was evaluated on a scale of 0 to 4 and any adverse reactions were noted.
The average penile girth before the procedure was 7.5 cm (3 in). One month after the procedure the girth was 11.4 cm (4.5 in) and after 18 months the girth was measured at 11.3 cm (4.4 in).
Significantly, patient's and partner's satisfaction scores (out of a possible maximum of 4) were 3.7 and 3.6 respectively at 1 month, and 3.3 and 3.4 after 18 months. The researchers say there were no inflammatory signs or serious adverse reactions, leading them to conclude that girth enhancement using filler appears to be a very effective and safe technique for penile augmentation.
